Flamingo spotting

Punta de la Banya lies nearbyj Amposta and is only reachable during summer via the sandbank of about 200 meters wide. Chances are that you will spot flamingos at the northern point of this peninsula. You can enter from the 15th of July until the 15th of September, but you can also try to find the flamingos in Parc Natural de Delta de l’Ebre, that you can enter at the end of the boulevard in Riumar.

El Garxal

Also, often the flamingo’s can be seen at El Garxal (the nature reserve starting at the end of the boulevard in Riumar). If you buy a ticket, for a couple of euros, for a cruise on the Ebro the captains have already spotted the flamingos and will will point you to their whereabouts during the boat trip. The cruiseboats depart from Illa de Buda.

How to get to Punta de la Banya

The distance from Casa Noella to Punta de la Banya is on average 25 km.

The route starts at El Poble Nou del Delta – T3408, Sant Carles de la Rapita direction Amposta.

Shortly before entering the village you will see a bifurcation. You take the road to the right, direction Platja de l’Eucalyptus. The paved road leads to the beach and at the end you can turn left towards Eucalyptus Beach, or turn right towards Punta de Banya. So, if you take the right turn you will find yourself on the sandbank towards (hopefully) the flamingos!
